Chronicling America: Historic American Newspapers: 100 Years Ago: “Chronological Review of 1915,” The Appeal, January 1, 1916.

“Goodby, old year, goodby! You have brought much pain and sadness; You have brought much joy and gladness. Come in, new year, come in! We are much rejoiced to meet you!”  For its January 1, 1916 issue, The Appeal (St. Paul, MN) published a chronological review of 1915 events from around the world,  classified by chief subjects including Political and Personal, Nature Freaks, The Year’s Death Roll, and Field of Sports.  Notable entries include:  August 12, 1915: Vesuvius, Etna and Stromboli, the Italian volcanoes became active and July 16, 1915: Norman S.
