Venture Acceleration Fund awards spur investment in Northern New Mexico

Proposals due by March 20

LOS ALAMOS, N.M., Feb. 26, 2015—Companies located in Los Alamos, Santa Fe, Sandoval, Rio Arriba, Taos, San Miguel and Mora counties have until March 20 to submit proposals for Venture Acceleration Fund (VAF) awards for calendar year 2015. Preference for funding are given to businesses in these counties, as are technology and manufacturing firms that can demonstrate their ability to stimulate job growth and attract additional revenue to the region.

“The VAF has become a very important and popular economic development resource and we expect that this year will be our most competitive to date for businesses submitting proposals,” said Kurt Steinhaus of Los Alamos National Laboratory’s Community Programs Office. “We are looking forward to reviewing proposals from New Mexico entrepreneurs and doing all we can through the program to strengthen the regional economy.”

Since the Venture Acceleration Fund was created in 2006, 49 New Mexico companies have been assisted with financial awards averaging $45,000.

Information sessions

Two information sessions are scheduled for parties interested in the Venture Acceleration Fund proposal process:

  • 2-4 p.m., March 5, Northern New Mexico Citizens Advisory Board, 94 Cities of Gold Road, Pojoaque
  • 10 a.m.-noon, March 11, Santa Fe Business Incubator, 3900 Paseo del Sol, Santa Fe.

The VAF was established by Los Alamos National Security, LLC (LANS) in 2006 and has become a collaborative investment involving Los Alamos County, the New Mexico Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP), Santa Fe County, the city of Santa Fe and the Regional Development Corporation.
