U.S.-Africa Energy Ministerial

June 3-4, 2014- Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

The Government of Ethiopia and the Government of the United States will co-host the U.S.-Africa Energy Ministerial (AEM), which will focus on the theme of “Catalyzing Sustainable Energy Growth in Africa” and provide a forum for major announcements and commitments that support energy development throughout Africa.

Renewable Energy & Energy Efficiency Trade Policy Mission to Peru 

Nov 12-13, 2014- Lima, Peru

Join a U.S. Department of Commerce official on a two-day renewable energy and energy efficiency (RE&EE) trade policy mission to Lima, Peru. The mission will help create a policy environment in Peru capable of facilitating additional RE&EE development, remove restrictions to U.S. RE&EE exports, and introduce U.S. companies to senior-level Peruvian officials. Morocco Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Reverse Trade Mission

June 8-18, 2014- San Francisco, CA; Denver, CO - USTDA will host a delegation of key public sector officials from Morocco's energy sector on a visit to the United States to participate in the Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Reverse Trade Mission (RTM).

Vietnam Smart Grid Development and Implementation Reverse Trade Mission

June 2014- Washington D.C., Raleigh-Durham, NC; Atlanta, GA; San Francisco, CA. 

The U.S. Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) will host a delegation of key officials from Electricity Vietnam's Ho Chi Minh City Power Corporation (EVN HCMC) on a visit to the United States to participate in a Reverse Trade Mission (RTM) focused on smart grid development. During this RTM, the delegation will have the opportunity to meet with U.S. companies to learn about smart grid distribution technologies that can support efforts to modernize and enhance power system efficiency and reliability in Vietnam.

Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Advisory Committee Meeting

On April 8, the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Advisory Committee (RE&EEAC) convened to discuss trade policy and U.S. competitiveness matters.  Representatives from industry and government agencies such as ITA, USTR, and State Department were in attendance. Topics covered included the WTO Environmental Goods Negotiations, cost-saving mechanisms for U.S. embassy energy consumption;  and the USAID Power Africa Initiative.  To view the meeting minutes, click here.

 

USTDA Supports Development of Solar Power Plant in Tanzania

The U.S. Trade and Development Agency has awarded a grant to NextGen Solawazi Limited to support the implementation of a 5 megawatt (MW) solar photovoltaic power plant in Kigoma, Tanzania.  The project advances the goals of Power Africa, a U.S. government-led initiative to double access to power in sub-Saharan Africa over the next five years.

Market Alert: Ministry of Environment Funding Micro-grid Demonstration Projects

Japan’s Ministry of Environment (MOE) is initiating a new program to encourage domestic low-carbon emission micro-grid development by funding independent demonstration projects that will incorporate renewable energy production, energy storage systems, incorporation of electric vehicles for mobility and storage, and energy efficiency optimization. The U.S. Commercial Service in Japan is ready to assist U.S. firms interested in participating in this program.

West Java, Indonesia 30 MW Cibuni Geothermal Power Project

PT Teknosatria Energi Geothermal, an Indonesian firm that plans to develop a 30 MW power generation facility at the Cibuni geothermal project site, is seeking to contact major turbine manufacturers and suppliers to request expressions of interest (EOI) to supply major plant components for the Cibuni project. Interested firms may view the solicitation notice here. The deadline is May 12, 2014.

Federal Register Request for Comments on Environmental Goods Agreement 

On March 21, 2014, the United States Trade Representative (USTR) notified Congress of the Administration's intention to enter into negotiations for a World Trade Organization Environmental Goods Agreement. USTR, on behalf of the Trade Policy Staff Committee (TPSC), is seeking public comments regarding U.S. interests and priorities with respect to this initiative.
