Japan
Japan is the second largest source of foreign direct investment (FDI) into the United States. That's why our SelectUSA team and Commercial Service personnel in Japan joined U.S. Ambassador Caroline Kennedy to host an investment showcase in Tokyo. The event brought together Japanese investors, government officials, and U.S. businesses for a discussion of the United States-Japan partnership, the role FDI plays in this relationship, and the benefits such investments provide.
Akira Amari, Japan's Minister of State for Economic and Fiscal Policy, noted that the benefits of these investments flow well beyond the country of investment in the form of access to new markets and the generation of ideas that bubble up when individuals from diverse backgrounds work side-by-side. We couldn't agree more!
Korea
As another large and rapidly growing investor in the United States, Korea was the next stop on our investment showcase. During the team's visit to Seoul, SelectUSA officials sat down with investors and trade associations to share information about SelectUSA's services (if you're not familiar with our services, learn more by clicking here). The team enjoyed engaging with these groups, listening to their questions, and learning from their experiences with investing in the United States.
Our team also had the opportunity to join U.S. Commercial Service Korea's Jim Sullivan and Hankook Tires at U.S. Ambassador Sung Kim's residence to congratulate the company on the announcement of its first U.S. manufacturing facility in Clarksville, Tennessee. It was wonderful to visit with this company and to hear its enthusiasm about expanding its manufacturing operations into the United States.
