The U.S. Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) is sponsoring a two-day workshop to foster U.S. – Colombian partnerships for state-of-the-art electricity transmission and distribution projects throughout the country in cooperation with Colombia Inteligente (Smart Colombia), an industry coalition established to coordinate the implementation of smart grid technology. The event will highlight Colombia’s smart grid projects and initiatives, U.S. technologies and the regulatory frameworks, standards, and financing mechanisms available to support them. The workshop agenda will also focus on the applicability of demand response programs in Colombia.

Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker will lead an Infrastructure Business Development Mission to the United Arab Emirates, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Qatar that will highlight infrastructure export opportunities for U.S. businesses including renewable energy (solar, wind, waste-to-energy), smart grid and energy efficiency. The application deadline is January 17, 2014.
The 7th edition of the Macau International Environmental Co-operation Forum and Exhibition (MIECF) is the only international trade show for the environmental industry in Macau. The 2014 show will be held at the Venetian Hotel from 27th to 29th of March with “Energizing Green Business Growth” as its theme. A series of activities, including forum, exhibition, business matching services and networking events, will take place in the 3-day period. We would encourage U.S. companies having offices in Asia to attend. A 531 MW run-of-river hydroelectric power plant to be built in Chile received a structured project finance loan from the Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC). The power plant will be a key generation facility for Santiago and reduce electricity costs, as well as greenhouse gas emissions, in a country that has become increasingly reliant on coal and diesel generation plants.
