Asia Regional Waste-to-Energy and Biomass Reverse Trade Mission

November 3-14, 2013 - Washington, D.C.; Sacramento, CA; and San Francisco, CA 

The U.S. Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) is supporting a regional Reverse Trade Mission intended to introduce 15 officials and project developers in the waste-to-energy and related biomass power subsector in Indonesia, the Philippines and Thailand to relevant industry suppliers, service providers and regulators in the United States. There will be a Business Briefing for U.S. companies to meet with the delegates in order to learn more about specific project opportunities and upcoming procurements on Tuesday, Nov. 12th in San Francisco, CA.


POWER-GEN International 2013 

November 12-14, 2013 - Orlando, FL 

The POWER-GEN International Conference provides a showcase for one of the world's largest display of equipment, products and services available to the electric power generation industry within a single venue. Comprehensive educational sessions are available during the conference covering the business/economic, environmental fuels, generation trends, operating and upgrading of electric power generation plants. The International Buyer Program will support a full service International Business Center offering export counseling and access to industry and country specific market analysis. In addition, Commercial Service staff will provide matchmaking and export counseling.


Videoconference with U.S. Ambassador to South Africa Patrick Gaspard

November 14, 2013 

South Africa plans to double its electricity generation capacity by 2030, presenting vast opportunities for U.S. exports of goods and services, as well as U.S. direct investment. This teleconference will focus on opportunities for U.S. companies in the South African energy sector. Ambassador Gaspard will host the call and provide an introduction, which will be followed by an interactive question and answer session. The Ambassador will be joined by the U.S. Embassy Deputy Chief of Mission, Economic Minister Counselor, Senior Foreign Commercial Service Officer, and other members of the Mission Pretoria Economic and Commercial Team. U.S.-Japan Renewable Energy Policy Business Roundtable                  

December 11, 2013 - Livermore, CA      

The U.S. Department of Commerce’s International Trade Administration (ITA) is seeking representatives from 20 qualified U.S. companies to join Japanese industry counterparts. Gain a deeper understanding of the changing Japanese policy and regulatory landscape with respect to REⅇ interact with Japanese policymakers and private sector representatives active in the RE&EE sector; provide perspectives on how to increase U.S.-Japan business partnerships in the RE&EE sector; and enhance bilateral cooperation by identifying key policy issues and sharing best practices. The deadline to apply is November 15.

This leading conference and showcase focusing on the wind energy sector and policy in Mexico has a direct impact on the planning, organization and operation of Mexico's National Wind Energy program. USTDA Grant to Accelerate Wind Power Development in Vietnam

USTDA announced a $287,917 grant to the Electricity Regulatory Authority of Vietnam, part of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, in order to support the development of a wind grid code for the country's electric power sector. The technical assistance grant will fund a study of Vietnam's wind resources and its power grid to serve as the basis for a new grid code standard that allows for the integration and interconnection of up to 6,000 MW of new wind power. Registration of wind power development projects in Vietnam has recently accelerated, with over 60 projects registered with MOIT, and more to come. [September 2013]

 

Ex-Im Bank Approves $34 Million to Finance the Export of U.S. Solar-Related Products to Spain and South Africa

As part of its renewable-energy push, the Export-Import Bank of the United States has authorized a pair of direct loans totaling $33.6 million to Abengoa of Seville, Spain, that will facilitate the export of American heat-transfer fluid produced by The Dow Chemical Company for use in solar projects in Spain and South Africa. Ex-Im Bank's financing will support approximately 200 U.S. jobs, according to bank estimates derived from Departments of Commerce and Labor data and methodology. USAID and Ashden Launch New Energy for Agriculture Award

The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), in partnership with Ashden, a United Kingdom-based energy charity, announced a new award for innovators who use or supply clean energy technologies to increase production in the agricultural sector. The contest is open for entries until November 5, 2013. The winner will receive an award of up to £40,000 (approximately $64,000) at a ceremony in London on May 22, 2014. [October 2013]
