Reverse Trade Mission: Southern Africa Solar

The USTDA is sponsoring the second of two Reverse Trade Missions (RTM) to foster U.S.-Southern African partnerships in the implementation of solar power projects in Southern Africa. The first RTM took place in January of 2013, and the second will take place in September of 2013. It will include delegates representing private sector organizations from Southern Africa. The delegates will meet with U.S. companies and tour solar project sites in Washington, DC; Phoenix, AZ; Las Vegas, NV; and San Francisco, CA.

Asia Regional Waste-to-Energy and Biomass Reverse Trade Mission

The U.S. Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) is supporting a regional Reverse Trade Mission (RTM) intended to introduce 15 officials and project developers in the waste-to-energy and related biomass power subsector in Indonesia, the Philippines and Thailand to relevant industry suppliers, service providers and regulators in the United States. This regional activity will support USTDA's effort as part of the U.S. - ASEAN Connectivity Cooperation Initiative as well as the U.S. - Asia-Pacific Comprehensive Energy Partnership.

U.S.-China Working Group Makes Recommendations on Clean Fuels, Smart Grids, and More
The U.S.-China Climate Change Working Group has submitted a report to the Special Representatives of the United States and China for the Strategic and Economic Dialogue, pursuant to the Joint Statement on Climate Change issued by the United States and China on April 13, 2013. [July 2013]
DOE/METI Joint Statement
The Japanese Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), Toshimitsu Motegi, and U.S. Secretary of Energy, Ernest Moniz, met on July 24 in Washington, D.C. Both sides expressed their intent to continue strengthening cooperation between DOE and METI, including holding the next Renewable Energy Policy Business Roundtable in December. [July 2013]
USTDA Signs a Memorandum of Understanding with South Africa
The U.S. Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) Director Zak signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Development Bank of Southern Africa to enhance cooperation on project development in sub-Saharan Africa for priority infrastructure projects including clean energy. [July 2013]
Power Africa
On June 30, the President announced Power Africa, a new initiative to double access to power in sub-Saharan Africa, including the development of clean geothermal, hydro, wind and solar energy. Power Africa will help countries develop newly-discovered resources responsibly, build out power generation and transmission, and expand the reach of mini-grid and off-grid solutions. [June 2013]
USAID Holds Tanzania Workshop
Under the new US-Tanzania Utility Partnership — funded by the U.S. Agency for International Development and a component of the Power Africa Initiative — the U.S. Energy Association conducted a workshop in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania on “Demand Side Management (Energy Efficiency) and Advanced Metering.” [May 2013]
