February Highlights

February has been a full month for SelectUSA. We've met with government and industry leaders across continents to promote investment into the United States. Here are a few highlights:

Japan Road Show

SelectUSA Executive Director Vinai Thummalapally joined a delegation of SelectUSA staff, Ambassador Caroline Kennedy, and 16 U.S. economic development organizations (EDOs) for the Japan Road Show, February 1-5. We held seminars for over 500 participants in Tokyo, Nagoya, Osaka and Fukuoka. The Road Show was not only successful in connecting EDOs with investors; it also resulted in three new cooperative memoranda of intent (MOIs) on bilateral investment between the United States and Japan. We signed MOIs with the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) (pictured below), the Tokyo Chamber of Commerce and Industry (TCCI), and the Osaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI). We look forward to a continued, strong economic partnership with Japan.

IVC/SelectUSA Seminar in Israel

SelectUSA Deputy Executive Director Peggy Philbin was the keynote speaker at the Israel Venture Capital (IVC) Research Center/SelectUSA Seminar in Tel Aviv, Israel, on February 9. The event drew 200 attendees and investors from across Israel's tech sector. U.S. Ambassador to Israel Daniel Shapiro (pictured below) opened the seminar and highlighted the shared culture of innovation and entrepreneurship between the United States and Israel. Dep. Executive Director Philbin also led an investment round table in conjunction with the U.S. Commercial Service in Israel and the Manufacturers Association of Israel, the Kibbutz Industries Association, and the Israel-America Chamber of Commerce.

Manufacturing Forum at CIAS 2016

On February 11, the U.S. Commercial Service in Toronto launched a revamped annual automotive forum, now called the "SelectUSA Manufacturing Forum." Filled to capacity, the all-day event took place during the opening of the Canadian International Auto Show (CIAS). It consisted of one-on-one meetings between U.S. EDOs and investors, an industry round-table discussion hosted by the U.S. Consular General, and an evening networking reception. By all accounts, the Forum was a great success. In fact, 11 EDOs and 13 Canadian companies held more than 100 meetings to discuss potential investment across the United States, with several participants reporting promising results immediately after.
