 The U.S. Commercial Service offices in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait will hold a webinar to discuss their respective healthcare markets, specifically trends and opportunities in hospital operation and management, education and training services, eHealth and Health Information Systems.  Government officials and private sector experts will share their visions for the current and future direction of the healthcare sector, given that both the Saudi Arabian and Kuwaiti governments are heavily investing in this sector.  The U.S. Commercial Service will also share information about a planned healthcare trade mission to Saudi Arabia and Kuwait April 23-28, 2016.

Catalog Fair Partner Search at the Effective Hospital 2015 Conference

Effective hospital Conference is an annual event which attracts over 500 participants ranging from hospital directors, medical universities, key state institutions representatives and insurance companies to distributors. In 2015, the conference will celebrate its tenth edition. It will take place on November 24 – 25, 2015 at the Clarion Congress Hotel in Prague, Czech Republic. U.S. Commercial Service has been working with the conference organizer for several years. In 2015, we are launching a catalog fair partner search project at the conference for the first time. By participating in a catalogue fair the U.S. companies will receive: * Pre-conference outreach to Czech distributors. * Product information display at the Conference. * On-line promotion on U.S. Commercial Service web pages. * Results report from the outreach and conference collecting feedback on the product and potential partnership opportunities. * Post-show follow-up and market information.

Healthcare Technology & Hospital Information Services Trade Mission to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Kuwait

 The United States Department of Commerce, International Trade Administration (ITA), with support from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and organizers of the Saudi-American Healthcare Forum (SAHF) is organizing a Healthcare Technology & Hospital Information Services Trade Mission to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Kuwait from April 23 – 28, 2016. The mission will enable U.S. companies to learn first-hand about the healthcare markets and business opportunities in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait, access and network with government decision makers and key private-sector industry contacts, especially potential partners, and participate in the Saudi-American Healthcare Forum. U.S. companies and organizations with expertise in education and healthcare training, hospital operation and management services, and eHealth and health information systems are encouraged to register their interest in participating in this mission.

·         Where: Riyadh and Jeddah, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait City, Kuwait

Policy Corner

I&A/Office of Consumer Goods and GM/Office of ASEAN has been working with U.S. industry, ASEAN’s Traditional Medicines and Health Supplements Working Group, and the US-ASEAN Connectivity through Trade and Investment (ACTI), a project of USAID/State, to develop a US-ASEAN Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) Training Workshop, which will be held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, November 18-20, 2015.  This workshop is in follow-up to the US-ASEAN GMP workshop in Singapore, April 2014, and will focus on technical provisions of the U.S. GMPs for dietary supplements.  Speakers/trainers for the workshop will include two US industry experts.  Participants will include ASEAN regulators (responsible for health supplements and traditional medicines) and members of the Alliance of Health Supplement Associations (AAHSA) and ASEAN Alliance of Traditional Medicine Industries (AATMI).

Country Spotlight: Kuwait

Kuwait’s public healthcare sector accounts for more than 80% of the healthcare spending in the country. Currently, Kuwait’s Ministry of Health is the owner, operator, regulator, and financer of the vast majority of healthcare services rendered, pharmaceuticals purchased, and medical equipment acquired in the country. The Government of Kuwait is currently operating 15 general and specialized hospitals with the private sector expected to grow moderately in the coming years. Private companies are estimated to take a share of 15-20% of healthcare spending.
