Webinar on the German
& Czech Healthcare Market and Reimbursement
Valued at 25.2 billion Euros
in 2014, Germany is not only the third largest medical market in the world

traditional markets in Western Europe to the developing markets in the
east. How best, then, can U.S. companies look to capitalize on these
fantastic markets? This webinar will tell you what it takes to be

Nearly
50 Countries Reach Historic Agreement to Eliminate Tariffs on New Information and
Communication Technologies & Electro-Medical Devices: In July, representatives of almost
50 countries reached the first tariff-cutting agreement at the World Trade Organization
(WTO) in 18 years. Countries agreed to expand the scope of products that
receive duty-free treatment under the WTO Information Technology Agreement
(ITA). As a result, numerous countries will eliminate tariffs on roughly 200
information and communication technology (ICT) products, which have a value of
more $1 trillion in global trade. The agreement includes a number of medical
devices, including CT scanners, ultrasound machines, MRI machines, and
pacemakers. Now, U.S. ICT companies will be able to export these and other products duty-free to some of the largest markets in the
world including the European Union, Japan, Canada, Korea, Malaysia, and China.
For example, tariffs on CT scanners and MRI machines that range up to 8
percent will be reduced to zero. Over the next few months, countries will focus
on the technical work necessary to implement this landmark agreement. U.S.
exporters will start seeing new market access and low tariffs on their ICT and
medical device exports to these markets in July 2016, when the agreement is
scheduled to go into effect.
The
final text of the agreement, which includes a full list of the covered
products, is available here. If
you have any questions about the expansion of the WTO Information Technology
Agreement, please contact Rebecca
Gudicello or Dorothea Blouin.

Mexico is a big market for all types of medical devices. Imports
of medical equipment, instruments, disposable and dental products reached US
$4.3 billion in 2013.
Imports of U.S. products are duty free if they comply with the
NAFTA certificate of origin. U.S. products are appreciated because of their
high quality, after sales service and good prices compared to competing
products of similar quality. Most large public and private hospitals try to
have modern and very specialized medical devices. Some medium and small private
hospitals with limited budgets buy used or refurbished equipment. Public
hospitals by law, cannot buy used or refurbished products. In order to save
resources, recently many public and private hospitals are hiring companies that
offer “integral surgery services” and provide service “per event”, offering all
the necessary products required to perform a surgery. This concept is been
expanded to other areas where hospitals can use integral suppliers for
different processes like sterilization or others. In this way, hospitals avoid
making large investments in materials, pharmaceuticals, and instruments, and
also reduce the costs involved in keeping and controlling inventories, and
maintaining instruments for specialized surgeries.
