1.  Commissioner Koskinen Briefs Congress on the Filing Season

IRS Commissioner John Koskinen testified this week before the House Ways and Means Committee’s Subcommittee on Oversight on the 2015 Tax Filing Season.

2.  Employers Have Until April 30 to Request Certification for Work Opportunity Tax Credit

Businesses and tax-exempt organizations planning to claim the Work Opportunity Tax Credit for eligible workers hired in 2014 have until April 30 to request the required certification.

3.  Keep Your Enrolled Agent Status Active

Enrolled Agents with Social Security Numbers ending in 7, 8, or 9, or those without an SSN who haven’t timely renewed their enrollment status, need to do so as soon as possible. The IRS will soon begin moving these  Enrolled Agents to inactive or terminated status. Find out more here.

5.  Technical Guidance

Notice 2015-35 provides a list of qualified income tax treaties that exempt all nationals of that country from the tax imposed under section 5000C.
