Engaging Educators: An RSN Guide for States and Districts

Educator engagement is necessary for successful implementation of reform, but its purpose is greater: to advance the teaching profession and improve student performance. Engaging Educators: A Reform Support Network Guide for States and Districts proposes a framework to engage teachers in evaluation reform, and supporting roles that State and local education agencies and union affiliates can play.

Promoting Evaluation Rating Accuracy: Strategic Options for States

Promoting Evaluation Rating Accuracy

To better prepare States and local educational agencies operating in the new generation of evaluation systems, the Reform Support Network has published Promoting Evaluation Rating Accuracy: Strategic Options for States. The report summarizes the outcomes of a discussion among a group of State and district officials, teachers and principals, and external experts in educator evaluations and communications, who met to examine early results from new evaluation systems, discuss why these systems have not generated more realistic distribution of teachers across evaluation rating categories, and propose ways that States can begin to address this challenge.

Using Social Media to More Effectively Communicate Reform Efforts

Using Social Media to More Effectively Communicate Reform Efforts

State and local educational agencies have adopted new and more direct methods to communicate with teachers, administrators and other key stakeholders on critical reform issues. Ohio is one of the leading State education agencies embracing and experimenting with social media. Using Social Media to More Effectively Communicate Reform Efforts: A Case Study on the Ohio Department of Education’s Use of Twitter, details how Ohio used social media to drive interest and engagement in its 2012 educator conference and, ultimately, create a statewide network of educators.
