The U.S. Department of Labor's Mine Safety and Health Administration will commemorate the second annual Mine Rescue Day on Thursday, Oct. 30, during a meeting of the Holmes Mine Rescue Association at the National Mine Health and Safety Academy in Beaver, West Virginia.

Wayne Farms LLC, which makes products under brand names Dutch Quality House and Platinum Harvest, has been cited by the U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration for exposing workers to dangerous machinery, fall and musculoskeletal disorder hazards. OSHA issued 11 citations to the poultry processing plant in Jack, including nine serious, one repeat and one other-than serious violation. The investigation was initiated after the agency received a complaint from the Southern Poverty Law Center. Proposed penalties total $102,600.

The U.S. Department of Labor's Bureau of International Labor Affairs announced a $750,000 award for a cooperative agreement with the American Center for International Labor Solidarity, also known as the Solidarity Center, to implement a project to advance worker rights in the country of Georgia.
