The incumbent serves as the Fellow Engineer to the Chief of the Mine Electrical Systems Division, Pittsburgh safety and Health Technology Center (PSHTC), technical Support. The mine Electrical Systems Division provides electrical engineering services related to the safe use of electricity and electrical machinery during the extraction and processing of mineral resources. The areas include elevators, hoists, surface mining equipment controls, power electronics, and computer control, and power distribution. The Division disseminates technical procedures for the safe use, installation, maintenance and testing of these electrical systems and equipment. The Division develops specialized test equipment, devices, and instruments needed to make these evaluations. The incumbent in this position is an internationally recognized expert in the field of mine hoist and elevator safety systems, and serves as the principal expert and advisor to the Division Chief in these areas. This position has a full performance level to GS-14. - This position is inside the bargaining unit. - Relocation costs will not be paid.
