Cool video of endangered bighorn sheep getting released into Yosemite National Park this week. In 2000, there were as few as 100 Sierra Nevada bighorn sheep, but since then conservation efforts have helped increase the number to over 600 sheep. The return of this long-absent wilderness icon to the heart of Yosemite will restore the alpine ecosystem and give backcountry hikers a chance to view bighorn sheep in their native habitat. This is the first time in more than 100 years that bighorn sheep are in the Cathedral Range.
