Readout of Secretary Hagel's Discussion with Myanmar Minister of Defense Lieutenant General Wai Lwin Pentagon Press Secretary George Little provided the following readout: Secretary Hagel briefly met with Myanmar's Minister of Defense Lieutenant General Wai Lwin in Brunei. The Secretary expressed his support for Myanmar's chairmanship of ASEAN in 2014 and stated the Department looks forward to supporting their efforts on ASEAN defense events next year. The Secretary discussed the importance of continued progress on reform and the importance of Myanmar severing military ties to North Korea. Secretary Hagel applauded the Burmese military's support for the Government's democratic reform efforts and encouraged these reforms continue.
