Egypt's Defense Minister Calls Hagel to Discuss DevelopmentsAmerican Forces Press Service WASHINGTON, Aug. 24, 2013 - Egyptian Defense Minister Gen. Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi called Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel in Malaysia today to discuss developments in Egypt, Pentagon Press Secretary George Little said.
In a statement summarizing the call, Little said el-Sissi updated Hagel on the security situation throughout Egypt, as well as progress on the political roadmap. "Secretary Hagel stressed the importance of an inclusive, transparent political process that includes all Egyptians, and that differences must be resolved without violence," the press secretary said. The Egyptian defense minister also updated Hagel on security developments on the Sinai Peninsula, Little added, and Hagel expressed appreciation for Egypt's efforts to ensure the security of the U.S. Embassy facilities and all U.S. personnel serving in Egypt. |
