Course Description:

This course provides dam owners, professional staff of dam safety and security programs and emergency managers at the Local, State, Tribal, Territorial, and Federal levels, as well as dam safety, dam security, and incident management personnel from the private sector with an overview and description of current methods and tools available for assessing the potential consequences of dam failure and how these assessments can be integrated into local emergency management planning efforts. Course Description:

This course is designed as an introduction to the fundamental concepts of benefit-cost analysis (BCA). Cost-effectiveness is a key criterion for determining whether or not a hazard mitigation project is eligible for funding. To assist in assessing cost-effectiveness, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has developed software modules and guidance for conducting BCA of proposed projects.
