You will serve as a Program Support Assistant in the Federal Insurance and Mitigation Administration, Risk Insurance Division, Underwriting Claims and Appeals Branch, Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), Department of Homeland Security (DHS). The Underwriting Claims and Appeals Branch is technical in nature, requiring the applications of comprehensive knowledge of the statues, regulations, and policies applicable to be responsible for the National Flood Insurance Program's (NFIP) rules, rates, forms, procedures for the purchase of insurance policies, design, layout and determination or changes of revisions to the policy coverage and manual rules, required to handle the NFIP in a sound business manner, and with full understanding of the claims practices and procedures used throughout the insurance industry. The very nature of a claims environment dictates a fast-paced, pressure-filled, deadline-driven atmosphere. The successful candidate will thrive in this setting. The Underwriting Claims and Appeals Branch is also responsible for the instruction and guidance of the NFIP's contractor's staff handling the rating and acceptance of the Program for FEMA NFIP's formal appeals process to assist in resolving claim issues.
