SUBJ:  2019 LEAGUE OF UNITED LATIN AMERICAN CITIZENS (LULAC) EXCELLENCE IN PUBLIC SERVICE AWARD
1. This ALCOAST solicits nominations for the 2019 LULAC Excellence in Public Service
Award. The award recognizes excellence by individuals or teams in the advancement
of diversity, education, economics and health in communities with large
underrepresented populations. The LULAC award is open to Coast Guard military
members and civilian employees.
2. All nominations must include and will be evaluated according to the following
criteria:
   a. Activity Period - A minimum of one year of service is required for
consideration (April 2018 to March 2019);
   b. Description of the Activity – In no more than a quarter of a page, briefly
describe the situation or context of a project, program or challenge that was
addressed. Use specific examples and indicate the date started and, if completed,
the end date;
   c. Action Taken – In no more than a half a page, describe the exact actions taken
by an individual or a team that made a significant contribution toward the goal;
   d. Impact of Activity – In no more than a half of a page, explain the results
and impact of actions by an individual or a team. Describe why what they did
mattered, how it made a difference and/or was affected. Include ways in which the
work performed is part of a bigger picture and if or how it impacted a community;
   e. Biographical Summary - In no more than half of a page, for an individual
provide a summary of the individual's talents and for a team submission, provide a
summary description of their collective talents and range of service;
   f. Individual photograph - head and shoulder color picture; team photograph -
head, shoulder and torso color picture (JPG format at 300 dpi resolution);
   g. Award Package - must be forwarded with a signed Command cover memorandum.
Please do not include any Personally Identifiable Information (PII).
   h. Award Nominating Transmittal Form - for a copy of this form, please contact
the Point of Contact (POC).
3. Items b thru e in paragraph 2 must be in a word document, not be scanned or in
pdf format.
4. Nomination packages must be forwarded, as email attachments, to the POC, by
April 10, 2019.

6. Commands of award recipients will be notified by email prior to release of
the ALCOAST announcing the winner(s).
