International Year of Soils: Celebrating Our Living Soil

Behold Our Living Soil-healthy soil is teeming with life.

Last week, USDA launched its International Year of Soils celebration, joining partners across the world to build awareness about soil in 2015. Soil is important in providing food security and ecosystem functions for a rapidly growing world population.

Farmers and ranchers play a vital role in maintaining soil health. NRCS works with landowners to apply conservation practices like cover crops, crop rotation, conservation tillage and no-till that help sustain soil health. Learn more.
