Since its creation in 2011, our Animal Care Information System (ACIS) has been a valuable resource for thousands of stakeholders searching for information about individuals and facilities regulated under the Animal Welfare Act. However, technical issues have arisen that affect the speed with which users retrieve information, as well as the accuracy and consistency of some of that information.

Our technical team has decided that the best course of action is to create a new and improved ACIS rather than trying to fix the current version. As we build the new database, we are addressing the current technical issues while also improving the overall usability so it will be easier for you to create customized searches and retrieve inspection reports, animal inventories and annual reports.

We are making steady progress – while also complying with all federal requirements for data security. Our target timeframe for having the new database up and running is the end of 2014. Until then, you can still retrieve data from the current database, but please be aware that the system is quite slow and may not provide complete responses to your search requests. If you have questions about the database or are in need of assistance with a search, please contact Dave Sacks in our Riverdale, Md., office at 301-851-3749.

We will continue to update you on our progress, and we thank you for your continued patience.

At USDA Animal Care, ensuring the welfare of the animals we regulate is at the heart of everything we do.
