China Lifts Import Suspension on Virginia Poultry and Poultry Products
Effective, April 30, 2014, China’s General Administration for Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ) and Ministry of Agriculture (MOA) rescinded a long-standing low pathogenic avian influenza (LPAI)-related import suspension on Virginia-origin poultry and poultry products. This suspension had been in place since August 2007. China is currently the third largest export market for U.S.-origin poultry and poultry products. Exports to China totaled $503.6 million in calendar year 2013. China’s reinstatement of Virginia as being eligible to export product is expected to further facilitate exports of U.S.-origin poultry and poultry products to China.
