Dear National Service and Social Innovation Family,

Today, President Obama is releasing his budget request for Fiscal Year 2016.

The President has proposed a strong budget for the Corporation for National and Community Service and our programs.  Overall, the budget requests $1.18 billion for CNCS.  This funding level will enable AmeriCorps, Senior Corps, and the Social Innovation Fund to expand economic opportunities, bolster civic and faith-based organizations, engage millions of Americans in service, and invest in evidence-based solutions.

The budget would support a record-high 90,150 AmeriCorps members; invest in promising and evidence-based approaches to improve the lives of low-income individuals through the Social Innovation Fund; provide service opportunities for 270,000 older Americans through Senior Corps with an increased focus on competition; and continue to identify, generate, and disseminate evidence of the impact of national service.

The budget also provides key resources to strengthen the nation’s volunteer sector, support the vital work of Governor-Supported State Service Commissions, and build the capacity of organizations to recruit and retain volunteers to address critical community needs.

To learn more about the President’s request, please read our Congressional Budget Justification on the budget page of our website.

Our AmeriCorps, Senior Corps, and Social Innovation Fund programs tackle the nation’s most pressing challenges – educating students for the jobs of the 21st century, assisting veterans and military families, helping communities rebuild after disasters, increasing economic opportunity, preserving the environment, and promoting health and well-being.

The Fiscal Year 2016 budget will continue this smart approach of investing in national service to improve communities.  I look forward to building on this great foundation and creating more opportunities for Americans to make a difference.

Warmest Regards,

Wendy Spencer, CEO
Corporation for National and Community Service
