From the CEO

Dear Friends,

The Corporation for National and Community Service is very fortunate to have an outstanding group of national leaders who serve on our bipartisan board of directors.

Appointed by the President and confirmed by the Senate, our board members provide key insight and guidance as we strengthen America through national service and volunteering. As CEO, I’m grateful for their service.  This week the board approved an upcoming leadership transition that I want to share with you now.

Laysha Ward

After five years of dedicated service, including the last two years as chair, Laysha Ward’s board term will expire at the end of the month.

Laysha has been – and will continue to be – an extraordinary champion for national service.  During her tenure, she provided valuable leadership on key milestones for CNCS, from passage of the Serve America Act and enactment of our Strategic Plan to energizing our partnership efforts and increasing our emphasis on oversight and accountability.

Laysha has tirelessly advocated for service and volunteering, emphasizing the importance of expanding service opportunities for all Americans, demonstrating our impact, and telling our story.  CNCS and the field we support are much stronger because of Laysha’s leadership. I have no doubt Laysha will continue to stay deeply involved in our work.

Lisa Garcia Quiroz

I am excited to welcome another outstanding service champion to serve as CNCS board chair.  Lisa Garcia Quiroz is a national leader in corporate social responsibility, philanthropy, education and diversity. Since joining the board almost two years ago, Lisa has provided key insights and guidance on a range of subjects.

Lisa is the Chief Diversity Officer and Senior Vice President, Corporate Responsibility at Time Warner, Inc.  In this role, she ensures that Time Warner’s workforce is reflective of a global media company that reaches cross-cultural audiences and that its workplace is one where the best talent can thrive and advance.

Lisa oversees corporate responsibility as well as Time Warner’s philanthropic outreach. Since 2004, she has worked to refocus the company’s philanthropic strategy, resulting in original programs which foster diverse new talent and build new audiences in the arts, and help make college more accessible to all talented youth.  Before joining Time Warner’s corporate division, she worked at Time Inc., where she launched People en Español and Time for Kids

On behalf of the national service family, I want to thank Laysha and Lisa for helping us build service as a solution to the critical challenges facing our nation.

Warmest Regards,
