
Zip Clip Expansion Plans
Welsh
Government has announced plans to build a new £2m factory in Welshpool for Zip
Clip to facilitate the company’s expansion following a number of new contracts
it has secured.
The
company was launched in 2004 employing just three people and is now a global
supplier of innovative suspension systems, exporting to 22 countries with
forecast sales set to double in volume and value by 2017, with jobs increasing from
32 to over 50 by 2017 and 70 by 2020. Read more.

New A465 construction training facility
open
A new on-site training facility and visitors centre has
opened on the A465 Heads of the Valleys road dualling scheme with the aim to
encourage and support more people into the construction industry.
Set-up
as part of the A465 Heads of the Valleys (HoV) Dualling Scheme – Section 2:
Gilwern to Brynmawr, the new facility is funded by Welsh Government and is
being managed by the scheme’s contractor, Costain Ltd. Read more.

Building for the future with Welsh Government support
A Pontypool-based building
products firm that suffered a major fire a year ago is now embarking on a major
expansion initiative that should create 31 new jobs and protect 12 others,
thanks to Welsh Government support.
Brick Fabrication Ltd., which makes brick-clad,
glass-reinforced plastic chimneys and other pre-fabricated building products
for blue chip house builders in the UK, is investing £790,000 in a new
production facility in the Torfaen town. Read more.

Welsh Government helps DU Construction
investment success
Investment
in a bespoke strategically located operational centre and headquarters on
Anglesey Enterprise Zone is paying dividends for DU Construction Ltd which is
winning new business and creating jobs.
The
£470,000 investment by DU Construction was supported by £210,000 from the Welsh
Government’s Economic Growth Fund and enabled the company to expand and
relocate its offices from Gaerwen to Penrhos Business Park in Holyhead. Read more.

Specialist flooring firm expands with Wales
Economic Growth Fund support
An award
winning North Wales company which installs resin flooring for clients across
the UK - including the London Eye and Aintree Racecourse - has expanded into
new premises to meet the growing demand for its services.
The
investment by Coatech Ltd in new premises, plant and machinery was supported by
a grant from the Welsh Government’s Economic Growth Fund to help increase the
company’s competitiveness and create 6 new jobs and safeguarding a further two. Read more.

Land sale paves way for £100m mixed
use development in Central Cardiff Enterprise Zone
Contracts
have been completed between the Welsh Government and leading Cardiff Property
Developer JR Smart for the sale of land in the heart of the Central Cardiff
Enterprise Zone. This will pave the way for a prestigious new £100M vibrant,
mixed use, development comprising office, hotel and residential uses.
The
potential 250,000sq.ft. development named John Street – Callaghan Square is set
to create around 100 jobs during the construction phase with the capacity to
accommodate/create up to 1000 plus jobs when completed. Read more.

New
£8million development planned for SA1 Swansea Waterfront
Contracts
between the Welsh Government and Bridgend based Waterstone Homes have been
completed paving the way for a new £8M prestigious development on SA1 Swansea
Waterfront.
Waterstone's
have planning consent to construct a
high quality development comprising 25 apartments over four floors above a 8,000 sq ft of waterfront
retail/leisure space with outside seating for restaurant operators.
It is anticipated to create and support 220 jobs and generate over £22M of economic
activity.

Affresol targets new markets for plastic
‘concrete’ in expansion backed by Welsh Government
A Swansea firm that has
developed a unique synthetic concrete product is diversifying into new markets
and expanding operations in an £850,000 investment that will create up to 64
new jobs.
Affresol is upgrading
its facilities on Swansea West Business Park and building a new hi-tech
automated production line which is supported by the Welsh Government with
£245,000 business finance. In addition to creating up to 64 new jobs over the
next three years the investment will also safeguard an existing seventeen jobs. Read more.

An audience in Cardiff heard from women in
senior positions in the field of construction and engineering at an event to
celebrate National Women in Engineering Day. The event organised by the ICE
Wales and sponsored by Welsh Government and ABC Electrification sought to inspire
young women and help industry tackle the barriers to attracting and retaining

South East Wales Schools Capital
Working Group (SEWSCAP) framework
A launch
event for the SEWSCAP2 Framework was held on the 7 July 2015, with over 70
contractors and clients contributing to the way forward for the new framework.
This
second iteration of the successful collaborative construction arrangement was
awarded on the 1 May. It provides a route to market for construction activities
in relation to schools and other public buildings for participating authorities
in South and Mid Wales.
There are
19 contractors of various sizes and abilities on the framework, including
several Welsh based contractors and a local consortium.
