Stay summer safe – avoid swimming in open water
While it may be tempting to cool off in some of our rivers and lakes during the hot weather, swimming in open water can be dangerous.
Strong currents, hidden hazards, deep or uneven ground and poor water quality can all pose serious risks.
Water temperatures are also often much colder than they appear, even in warm weather, which can lead to cold water shock and make it difficult to breathe or stay afloat.
Nottinghamshire Police have shared a video highlighting these dangers: Dangers of swimming in open water.
For your safety, please choose supervised pools or designated bathing areas, and enjoy open water from the shoreline. Staying out of the water could save your life.

UK terrorist level raised to severe
The UK terrorist threat level has been raised to SEVERE, meaning an attack in the UK is considered highly likely.
Whilst we hope it never happens, it's important to know and remember what to do in an emergency.
In the event of a firearms or weapons attack, Counter Terrorism Policing advises you to remember Run Hide Tell.
RUN If it’s safe, this is the best option HIDE if you can't run TELL us on 999 if it safe to do so
While there is no specific intelligence relating to Nottinghamshire, it is important that we all remain vigilant but not alarmed.

The digital phone switchover
The UK’s landline services are going digital. By 2027, most telephone providers will switch customers from old analogue landlines over to new digital services.
This change affects devices that rely on landlines, such as home phones and healthcare alarms. Many people are already switching as they upgrade to full fibre broadband.
Your provider (such as Virgin Media, O2 or BT) will contact you before the change to explain what you need to do. In many cases, it’s as simple as plugging your phone into your broadband router instead of the wall socket.
If you use any special devices (like personal alarms), please contact the company that supplied them to check they’ll still work after the switch.
