Better Broadband for Nottinghamshire rollout in Collingham

Almost 11,000 homes and businesses across Nottinghamshire will be the first to benefit from the £20m Better Broadband for Nottinghamshire programme, led by the County Council and BT.

This marks the beginning of an intensive programme of work that will see over one million metres of fibre optic cable laid and the installation of 2,500 fibre distribution points across the county.

In April, we announced the 24 exchanges provisionally included within Phase 1 of the programme and on 12 June representatives from Nottinghamshire County Council, BT, the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and Broadband Delivery UK (BDUK), who are all involved in the funding and delivery of the programme, along with representatives from Newark and Sherwood District Council, one of the wider partnership of funders, gathered to officially launch the programme’s first upgraded fibre broadband cabinet in Collingham, near Newark.

Where and when

Although we are still in the early stages, great progress is already being made and a number of communities are already able to access a fibre network.

As the programme moves forward, more and more cabinets will ‘go live’ and the best way to stay informed of progress is to visit the Council’s Better Broadband for Nottinghamshire web pages.

You can find out details of which cabinets have been enabled so far, view a series of maps showing the planned phases of the rollout and use our postcode checker to find out if you're included in the programme and when works are provisionally scheduled to commence in your area.

You'll also be able to find out how to test your current broadband speed, the benefits of fibre broadband as well as more information about the programme itself and how the network will be built.

Helping small businesses to say yes to an apprentice

Small businesses looking to recruit an apprentice could be eligible for a grant of up to £1,500. The County Council is providing funding to create 166 new apprenticeships to help get more young people into work.
