Thank you for recycling your real Christmas tree!

Real Christmas tree

Thank you to everyone that contacted us to book a collection for their real Christmas tree!

Our teams have been working hard across the city and have collected approximately 1,650 trees for recycling.

The real trees have been shredded either on site or back at Eastcroft or Woolsthorpe Depot. The chippings get redistributed across nature areas and parks.

If you still have a tree, you can dispose of it at the Household Waste and Recycling Centre in Redfield Road, Lenton (near the Showcase Cinema).

Exciting new exhibition comes to Nottingham!

Trash to Treasure

Want tips on how to recycle more household waste? Looking for creative advice on how to reuse materials?

Be inspired with ‘Trash to Treasure’, a series of innovative exhibitions, workshops and talks to celebrate creative upcycling.

It will launch on Friday 5 February by Nottingham City Council and partners and will run at a series of venues in Nottingham City Centre until the end of March.

‘Trash to Treasure’ is the brainchild of knowtrash – who have a unique collection of more than 4,000 contemporary recycled artefacts from more than 30 countries. All the artwork and everyday objects have been created from waste.

These collections will form five innovative exhibitions which will also feature pieces made right here in Nottingham by artists and students from several colleges.

Talks and workshops will run alongside the exhibitions to provide people with advice and support on how to be more creative with household waste and keep it out of the waste stream.

Could you be a Clean Champion?

student engagement

Nottingham City Council is working on a new campaign to help encourage more people to take an active role in their community.

Although the Council spends a great deal of time on street cleaning, social cohesion and anti-social behaviour, we recognise we can’t be everywhere all of the time.

We want to create an army of people, called Clean Champions, who proactively support our work and are keen to improve their local environment in small ways that make a big difference.

This could be by:

·        Sparing an hour or more to conduct litter picks in your neighbourhood

·        Reporting issues in your neighbourhood such as dog fouling, fly tipping, bins on streets or bin contamination

·        Suggesting local improvements

·        Providing ideas about how services are delivered

·        Giving your ideas and thoughts on campaigns to encourage behavioural change

·        Support new residents coming into your neighbourhood by providing advice and guidance on recycling and bin collection dates

We are seeking ideas and suggestions on how to develop this campaign so it is relevant and effective in Nottingham’s neighbourhoods and has a positive effect of people’s quality of life.

Get in touch with your ideas! Send your suggestions or details to michelle.lawson@nottinghamcity.gov.uk, call 8763311 or use our social media channels Twitter @cleangreennottm or Facebook /cleangreenottingham

Clean for the Queen Litter Blitzes – we want to hear from you!

Clean for the Queen

Let’s get together to not only ‘Clean for the Queen’, but to spruce up Nottingham’s neighbourhoods!

In the run up to The Queen's 90th birthday on 21 April 2016, Keep Britain Tidy are aiming to inspire a million people to take action and enjoy a few hours together litter-picking to make the places where we live more beautiful.

We want to hear your suggestions about where in Nottingham you think could do with a tidy up and a little attention. We will then invite everyone to vote on the suggestions and announce where the litter clear-ups will take place from Friday 4 to Sunday 6 March!

Have an hour or more to help?  We will provide tools, gloves and bags to any volunteer!

We are also encouraging schools, businesses, groups and individuals to come and support the litter picks or let us know if they need the tools to do their own.

Send your suggestions or details to michelle.lawson@nottinghamcity.gov.uk, 8763311 or use our social media channels below.
