Older citizens views are needed  The Broadmarsh area is changing and the City Council is keen to make the environment as age friendly as possible.  Please come along and join us on 22 December to learn more about the proposals and participate in discussions with councillors and senior managers. We appreciate that 22 December is very close to the Christmas holidays and that some people may be disappointed at not being able to attend.  If this is the case and there is enough demand, an additional meeting may be arranged in the New Year. Plans to dramatically transform and regenerate the Broadmarsh area of Nottingham city centre have been unveiled and the City Council would like to seek the views of older citizens.  A specific event for people aged 50+ and their representatives is to be held on Tuesday 22 December 2015, from 10.30 to 12.30, in the Committee Room at Loxley House, Station Street, Nottingham NG2 3NG. To register for a place please email healthandwellbeing@nottinghamcity.gov.uk or telephone Sharice Chambers on 0115 8763445.

Plans of the proposed development will be shared at the meeting and councillors and managers will be on hand to answer your questions and listen to your concerns.

The plans include a major redevelopment of the current Broadmarsh car park and bus station into a 21st century facility. Opportunities will be created for cafes and commercial units on the ground floor, as well asproviding 1,150 improved parking spaces on the upper floors, transforming the current layout of the bus station and introducing state-of-the-art public transport information facilities.

This, combined with significant changes to streets in the area, will transform the southern end of the city centre into a top-class destination for retail, leisure and education. The core development area is book-ended by Nottingham Castle to the west, poised for a £24m transformation, and a new Skills Hub to the east, due to be developed by Central College and New College Nottingham as a new flagship building just off Middle Hill. These developments, combined with intu’s plans for the shopping centre and the council’s plans for the surrounding area, are expected to attract an extra three million visitors a year.
