The Midlands Connect Partnership have revealed that improving transport links to speed up journey times across the Midlands could boost the regional economy by more than £1 billion a year, create 300,000 additional jobs and save businesses nearly £500 million.

Council consults on move to reduce Council Tax non-payment

A proposal which would see non-payment of Council Tax reported to credit reference agencies for the first time is the subject of a public consultation being launched by Nottingham City Council next month. Nottingham would be the first council in the country to take this step.

Pioneering school attendance campaign wins national media award

Nottingham City Council’s Get In:volved campaign, which aims to boost school attendance by offering pupils the chance to go to an exclusive pop concert with Capital FM was the Gold winner in the Media Week Awards 2015 in London on Thursday 22 October.

City Council’s solar project shines at environmental awards

Nottingham City Council scooped The Nottingham Post Environmental Innovation award for its solar car park canopy at Harvey Hadden Sports Village.

The solar carport innovation has given the popular Sports Village the means to generate and use free, green electricity on site through a structure that spans 40 car parking spaces. It is estimated that the carport will save around 493 tons of CO2 emissions from being produced each year, which equates to the emissions from 225 cars a year

Discover our underground city with the new Nottingham Cave Trail

The new Nottingham Cave Trail officially launched on 30 October, and features a three-mile walk designed to give a special insight into what lies beneath, with everything from decaying dungeons to breweries, cock-fighting pits and cave houses waiting to be uncovered. There's over 450 caves in total across the city!

Your City, Your Services - 2016/2017 Budget Consultation

We've reached a critical point for the Council's finances.

By next year, the amount of Government grant funding we get for our day-to-day spending will have more than halved since 2013 according to our latest estimates. That's a reduction of nearly £70 million.

Our funding has been reduced sharply in previous years but next year our budget challenge is even harder and deeper.

And while the Government pays less in grant towards council services, we are seeing the demand for some of our most vital services such as child protection and care for the elderly continue to grow.
