Happy International Older People’s Day!  This special day is celebrated worldwide on 1 October and this year Age Friendly Nottingham is working with partners to spread the word of what is available in the city for people aged 50+. Organisations offer a varied range of activities on a regular basis eg the Nottingham libraries but to celebrate this special day, additional events and activities are being offered. There are far too many activities happening to list them all here but we have been asked to let you know about the following.   All the events listed are FREE unless stated otherwise. Monday 28 September 2015

The Council House, Old Market Square

10.00 until 3.00

• The Council House is opening its doors for people to come and find out more about what’s on offer for older people. Information stalls are available covering employment, tax help, volunteering, health and care services, learning opportunities and much, much more

10.00 until 12.00

• Come and learn more about Nottingham’s Older Citizens’ Charter
• Design a more age friendly city centre – let us know what is already age friendly and discuss what might be improved
• Be inspired about the arts/culture offer for older people in the city – particularly the ‘Imagine’ project in care homes
• Find out why older people in the city are staging a ‘Sit-In’ at 12 noon

12.30 until 3.00

• Participate in a guided visit around the beautiful Council House and learn about its history

Nottingham CVS on Mansfield Road – starts 10.30

• Nottingham Pensioners’ Action Group (NPAG) invites you to join them at a seminar on ‘The Care Act 2014 and what it means to me’

Ken Martin Leisure Centre – 10.00 until 1.00

• 50+ ‘Swim and Gym’ session with a fitness class (£2.75 for city residents and £5.50 for non-city residents)

Nottingham Tennis Centre – 2.00 until 4.00

• 50+ tennis session (£8.40  based on a play and pay basis)

Nottingham Trent University - 4.00 until 6.00

• Older People’s Information Show – loads of information on a wide range of topics, plus activities such as free hand massages, indoor bowls etc

Old Market Square - 10.45

• Take a guided ‘city walk’ at an age friendly pace - starting outside the Council House explore the history of the city on foot

Old Market Square – 1.30 until 4.00

• Drop into the large ‘Spiegel’ tent to participate in an afternoon of STRICTLY AGE FRIENDLY DANCING opening with Flamenco dancing at 1.30
