Welcome to your September Transport Nottingham Newsletter!

This monthly newsletter aims to keep you informed on everything that's going on across Nottingham from walking, cycling, public transport and our Citycard savings to our Major Transport Projects

European Mobility Week 2015

Funded by Nottingham City Council via the Local Sustainable Transport Fund (LSTF) The Big Wheel, Sustrans and partners presents a week full of activities aimed at promoting sustainable travel with our annual car free day in Hockley to make way for a street fayre.

Activities on the day include pedal powered smoothie bikes, live music, street entertainment, guided walks, traditional lawn games on an artificial lawn and much more!

Western Cycle Corridor consultation

The most exciting part of Nottingham City Council's proposed £6.1m Cycle City improvements is being planned and residents and businesses were invited to have their say.

In total we had over 270 comments submitted through our online consultation map - the first time we have used such a method of consultation.

Aviva Tour of Britain

The Tour of Britain 2015 takes place 6th - 15th September with Nottingham hosting a stage finish on 11th September at the Forest Recreation Ground on Friday 11th September, between 3.40pm and 4.30pm.

To celebrate there will be an afternoon of FREE entertainment and activities on the Forest Recreation Ground for you and the family to enjoy.

Cycling for All

The next Cycling for All event is down at Queen's Drive Park and Ride on the 20th September 2015.

Ridewise, the Nottingham based cycling charity, carries out the events with the aim of inspiring more people to give cycling a go, no matter what their ability.

Subway reopens to cyclists and pedestrians

Last week the subway under Crown Island re opened for use by pedestrians and cyclists bringing us one step closer to the completion of the works.

Sky Ride Local

Just because summer is coming to a close doesn't mean you should store away your bike until next year!

There are a great programme of led cycle rides across Nottingham in September:

Tram routes open to the public

Nottingham's new expanded tram network opened to the public on Tuesday the 25th August 2015 at 6am when the first trams on the new lines to Clifton and Chilwell commenced passenger service.

The project has seen construction of 17.5km of new lines, creation of more than 2,000 free spaces at new park and ride sites, a new tram and bus interchange in Beeston and a new tram stop at the redeveloped Nottingham Station.

Shopmobility helps Caribbean Carnival go-ers

Shopmobility helped to support the City Arts Carnival Troupe at the Caribbean Carnival with the loan of scooters which enabled an older lady and a young person with cerebral palsy to take part on the day.

Alison Denhoollm, Creative Programme Officer from City Arts said, "None of these people would have been able to take part in the carnival without the scooters".

City Car Club!

Last month saw the launch of three new City Car Club hire sites; Queen's Drive Park and Ride, The Racecourse Park and Ride and The Forest Park and Ride.

Totally Transport!

Funded through the European Intelligent Energy Push Pull Project our Travel Planner is working with three business parks for the next 18 months; Ng2, Nottingham Business Park and Nottingham Science Park. Using incentive as motivation, the aim is to provide business travel planning support to encourage staff to ditch the car and travel to work more effectively and sustainably.

The first event took place at NG2 business park with Specsavers on NG2 hosting, Lara Marriott, Facilities Assistant Group Services said, “The event was a big success and created a real buzz among the representatives about considering more sustainable transport options”.

Two further events are due to take place the first at Nottingham Science Park on the 10th September and the second at Nottingham Business Park in early October.

Some of these projects and this newsletter are delivered as part of the Nottingham Urban Area’s successful Local Sustainable Transport Fund programme, helping to establish Nottingham as an exemplar for integrated sustainable transport.
