Fixed Term post for 2 years

Working at schools and colleges throughout Nottingham City and Nottinghamshire County

The successful applicant will provide travel training for young people with SEN and/or disabilities travelling between home and school. The Independent travel trainer will liaise with schools, families, the SEN team and young people to develop travel and safety plans for young people currently travelling to school on dedicated transport.

The prospective postholder will have knowledge and experience of working with young people with SEN, assessing risks for young people and will need to be adept at communicating with a diverse range of people. A demonstrable knowledge of public transport in and around Nottingham and experience of the difficulties young people face with regard to public transport would be a benefit.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:

- Experience of working with children and young people with special educational needs and assessing risk

- Ability to remain calm in all circumstances and be proactive in finding solutions to situations that arise during training sessions

- Ability to demonstrate an understanding of, and be sensitive to, the needs and issues facing young people with special educational needs and disabilities

- Ability to communicate effectively to a variety of audiences and instil confidence with young people, their families and schools

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

- A Professionally recognised qualification in Social Work and current HCPC or equivalent registration.

-Significant knowledge and understanding of the legislation, statutory guidance, policy and procedural framework which informs child care, safeguarding and child protection practice across all agencies.


- Extensive specialist knowledge and experience in either of the following areas: Fostering, Adoption, Post Order Support, Children in Care or Safeguarding.

Possession of a full driving licence, access to a vehicle and willingness to travel both inside and outside the council area as required is needed.
