'We are watching you!'

Wes

Any early morning news watchers out there might have seen an important message to irresponsible dog owners in Nottingham - 'We are watching you!'

Our Public Realm Operative - Wes Muers - took part in the national piece for BBC Breakfast News to highlight the issue of dog fouling in Nottingham and how we work hard with our enforcement arm Community Protection to tackle it.

This piece links really well with a campaign that you will soon be seeing in hotspot areas around the city. Remember - 'We are watching you!'

Something has popped up in the Old Market Square!

Have you seen our fantastic giant topiary-like sculptures in the Old Market Square? The eye-catching artwork has been installed for the summer to celebrate Nottingham’s clean, green credentials and to encourage shoppers to help keep it that way.

The sculptures, made by Notts company Shipshape Arts, have been commissioned by Nottingham City Council and Nottingham Business Improvement District (BID). They depict a grandmother and grandson sweeping, and encourage people to consider: “If every man would sweep his own doorstep and look after his local green space, the city would be even cleaner and greener.”

Our new units are the Boss!

Street Boss

Look out for our new litter barrows called ‘StreetBoss’ which are currently working in the city centre and some neighbourhoods to help to keep Nottingham clean and help maintain its status as Britain’s Cleanest City.

‘StreetBoss’ is a new multi-functional sustainable litter collection unit which encompasses a range of practical solutions for daily cleansing tasks; including litter picking, sweeping, bio hazard collection, detritus and dog fouling removal.

Manufactured in Britain and designed in partnership with street cleansing operatives, the unit is half the weight of a hand barrow (just 15Kg with tools) and comes with removable bags so is ideal for narrow passageways, steps and kerbs – ensuring every part of Nottingham is kept clean.

Nottingham will have nine units altogether – five for the city centre and another four for key neighbourhoods hotspots.

Do you know how to Recycle it Right?

Recycling

National Recycling Week runs from 22 - 28 June and in Nottingham CIty we want you to help us reduce contamination in recycling bins and Recycle It Right in your neighbourhood!

Putting the wrong type of waste into your bins could cost the Council more than £250,000 every year . Contamination has gone down but if we work together it can still be improved. Remembering the simple tips below can make a big difference; help us save money and improve our recycling rates:

1)      Please do not bag your recycling – just put it loose in your grey lidded recycling bin

2)      These common household items CAN NOT be recycled:

·         Pizza Boxes

·         Large Cooking Oil Cans

·         Take away tubs

·         Tetra Paks/Juice Cartons.

If you are not sure whether something is recyclable or not, don’t take a chance, leave it out of your recycling bin!
