New name for Harvey Hadden!

Harvey Hadden has been officially renamed Harvey Hadden Sports Village. The new name will give the venue greater flexibility in future years for further development as it continues to host international sporting events whilst providing a wide range of affordable sport and leisure activities for all.

Countdown to Harvey Hadden opening

Harvey Hadden has reached practical completion and is on track to officially open to the public in September. Carillion Plc handed over the building to Nottingham City Council at the end of May. The final touches are now being made to ensure it is ready for the grand opening.

The £16m redevelopment features state of the art fitness facilities along with many design features and equipment to meet the needs of disabled people. It will be the only 50m pool in Nottingham, with public swimming available every day.

Ongoing works include the cycle track whilst indoors the main hall is being re-lined so that it can accommodate more sports in future. A number of test events will be taking place in throughout the summer with some open to the public.

Top marks for athletics track at Harvey Hadden

Athletcis Track

The athletics track at Harvey Hadden stadium has achieved a category A classification for the first time following a track and field inspection by UK Athletics.

The highest grade has been achieved thanks to the additional eighth lane and infield improvements like relocation of long and triple jump pits, upgraded pole vault facility, shot putt and discus area. The existing track has also been cleaned and re-lined.

The news means the stadium can now accommodate competitions at all levels; from international to grass roots events.

The Amateur Swimming Association has also certified that the 25m short course and 50m pools have met the required length criteria for world records to be broken. The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) have given their approval that the track and pools meet the requirements for the Cerebral Palsy International Sports and Recreation Association’s World Games Competition – the biggest test event ahead of the official opening.

Nottingham 2015 Cerebral Palsy International Sports & Recreation Association World Games

Taking place from 6-16 August the event will bring together nations from around the world to compete in sports such as athletics, bowls, swimming, football and table cricket.

Nottingham arts organisations City Arts and Dance4 have been commissioned by the local organising committee Cerebral Palsy Sport to produce the ceremonies for the Games. The themes for the opening and closing ceremonies have been announced as ‘Aspirations’ and ‘Transformations’.
