my lived experience - Remembering Africa
Don’t
miss this exciting major exhibition by Ghanaian born, Nottingham artist Ahinee
Mensah. Ahinee describes her work as both fantasy and realistic, often symbolic
with a narrative based on identity and culture.
This exhibition is presented as part of Refugee Week 2015, which runs
from 13th - 20th June.
Free Film Screening! Le Havre (12A Cert)
This film has a fairy tale quality but is a comedy with a serious theme. A young African stowaway is befriended by an ageing bohemian who now has a shoeshine stand in Le Havre port. The boy is protected from the authorities by defiant locals.
This is a great opportunity in helping children and families get the most out of the Summer Reading Challenge and working as part of a team.
Author Talk: Alan Dance
A fascinating and entertaining talk from local author Alan Dance who will be discussing his historical novels set in and around Nottingham and the fascinating real-life events which inspired them.
Alan’s novels include: Narrow Marsh, Leen Times and Canary Child.

July 14 is the release date for the highly anticipated Go Set AWatchman by Harper Lee. The novel will once again introduce us to Scout, now grown up and living in New York; who returns to Maycomb to visit her father Atticus. The novel was written before To Kill a Mockingbird but is just being released.
How To Be A Winner
Congratulations to Ali Smith who has been awarded the Baileys Women Fiction Prize for How To Be Both. The novel is a dazzling exploration of the nature of art, gender, love and truth; featuring a renaissance artist from the 15th century and a modern day observer of their work.
