There are two job opportunities available.

JOB SUMMARY:

Working in partnership with Nottinghamshire Police to create a safe and clean environment across Nottingham City, a number of exciting opportunities have arisen in Nottingham City Council’s Community Protection department.

As a Senior Community Protection Officer you will perform a unique and innovative role, leading a team across the uniformed services within Community protection to support public safety with a range of enforcement powers.

You will build strong links with your communities and deal with local issues at a local level; your neighbourhoods will know you and you’ll know them.

As a SCPO, each day is different to the one before. You will spend some of your time out on the streets ensuring you're visible and proactively interacting with the community. You will work a shift pattern including weekends and evenings. You will conduct street patrols within designated areas of the City, aimed at tackling criminal activity, dealing with environmental crime and anti-social behaviour using delegated powers. You will manage a team of 10-15 uniformed colleagues and be responsible for ensuring the team meet Nottingham City Council priorities.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Ability to motivate and encourage team working and demonstrate the ability to manage change successfully.

• Communication skills, including the ability to listen, empathise, negotiate and be assertive.

• Able to keep manual and computerised records and the ability to carry out complex arithmetical calculations.

• Appreciation of the legislation and skills necessary in using enforcement powers.

The recruitment process will be in three parts -

1). Fitness test

2). Assessment centre (observation, written and role play)

You will be a Qualified Social Worker (MA, BA (hons) or BSc (hons) Social Work, DipSW, CQSW, CSS) with HCPC registration, have completed your NQSW year and be experienced in working with children and families. Proven experience of court work, as well as undertaking in-depth assessments, preparing high quality reports and presenting them in a formal setting is required as is your ability to manage child protection and complex, multi-faceted child protection cases.  You will also be able to apply your significant knowledge and practice to guiding, supporting and mentoring other workers.

Possession of a full driving licence, access to a vehicle and willingness to travel both inside and outside the council area as required is needed. An enhanced DBS check will also be required.

You will work a shift pattern including weekends and evenings for which you will receive enhanced pay for.  You will conduct street patrols within designated areas of the City, aimed at tackling criminal activity, dealing with environmental crime and anti-social behaviour using delegated powers, acting as a capable guardian of the City.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Appreciation of the legislation and skills necessary in using enforcement powers (issuing fixed penalty notices) including the ASB, Crime and Policing Act 2014

• Ability to deal with enforcement situations tactfully and diplomatically.

• Written communication skills in order to record actions.

• Ability to keep manual and computerised records.

To support with the management of the Behaviour Support Team. To help co-ordinate and facilitate team staff in delivering education services directly or indirectly for children with social emotional behaviour difficulties (SEBD).

To contribute to whole service development as a member of the leadership team of BST. To manage an identified strategic role within the team and to maintain limited caseload responsibilities.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:

1. Teaching degree or equivalent

2. Creative innovative thinker

3. Ability to establish professional relationships with school, other agencies, parents and young people

4. Understanding of principles of inclusive education

The work pattern for this post is:

Monday - Friday 8am – 4pm

As a Dog Control (Community Protection) Officer you will perform a unique and innovative role. This is a duel role performing standard CPO duties alongside Dog Control duties, acting as a capable guardian of the City.

As a DCO, each day is different to the one before. This isn’t a desk job; you will spend 85% of your time out on the streets providing a comprehensive service to reduce the number of stray dogs in Nottingham and reduce dog associated problems. You will work a shift pattern including weekends and evenings for which you will receive enhanced pay for.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Knowledge of the Local Authority’s need to control stray dogs and the legislation relating to dog control and community protection issues.

• Ability to recognise the behaviour and body-language of dogs and to recognise different breeds of dogs.

• Ability and willingness to handle aggressive and unsociable dogs in a wide range of environments.

• Ability to deal with conflict effectively; to listen, empathise, negotiate and be assertive in difficult situations.

• Full Driving Licence (Manual) required        .
