Nursery Open Day - Saturday May 9th 2015

The Nursery team look forward to welcoming you to the annual open day on Saturday May 9th from 10am to 3.30pm, with stalls and activities for all the family.

There will be a selection of bedding plants for sale, along with perennials, herbs, tomato plants and strawberry plants.  Customers can buy hanging baskets planted by the Nursery, or alternatively design and plant their own.

There will also be a variety of stalls from local food producers and other organisations.

Hedgehogs

Make a small change for nature

This year's open day encourages gardeners to make a small change for nature.  Advice will be available from a variety of organisations including the Royal Horticultural Society, RSPB, Prickly Ball Lodge hedgehog rescue, Nottinghamshire Bee Keepers, and Notts Wildlife Trust.  Pledge your support for 'Bee Friendly Nottingham' to receive a free 'Grow Wild' kit.

Jake Bug Hotel

Jake Bug Hotel is star of the show garden

A ‘Jake Bug Hotel’ will take centre stage in a wildlife-friendly mini show garden being created for the open day by Nursery gardener Elaine Rodrigues.  She says that inspiration struck her like a lightning bolt – and she hopes the Clifton-born singer-songwriter would approve.

The figure is made entirely of recycled materials, including pallets, trousers, plant pots and even two guitars that had been left out for the bin men!

Apprentices

Year of the Sunflower

The Parks Apprentices will be encouraging you to stop by their stand and plant a sunflower to grow at home.

They'll also show you how to Funk up your Junk with plants!

Teddy

First chance to see the new sculptures!

The open day will be the first opportunity to see the two new wicker sculptures that are being added to the floral trail in the city centre, sponsored by Nottingham BID.  Both new sculptures have been designed by local children.
