Quick guide to business laws

Business Companion is a free online resource that allows business owners to quickly and effectively find and understand the trading standards laws and consumer protection regulations.

It has been designed so business owners can also query laws specific to their industry. When these queries are complete, the business owner can create a printable 'guide' for easy reference.

It also allows businesses to set up legislative alerts so they can immediately be notified via email when a change to that law goes into effect.

Agents Forum Meeting

Commercial property agents and property developers will be at Havering Museum for a breakfast briefing on Tuesday 25 November when the Agents Forum has its next meeting.

If you are a commercial property agent or property developer working in Havering and have not received your invitation to this event please contact Jolly Choudhury.

Council Leader seeks business views

The Leader of the Council, Councillor Roger Ramsey, is inviting businesses to a special network event to give their views on the Council’s budget.

The event will be at the Town Hall, Main Road, Romford, RM1 3BB, from 5.30pm on Thursday 27 November.

Councillor Ramsey said: “Havering, like all councils, is confronted with a major financial challenge.  We need to reduce our overall budget by around a third over the next four years, in response to Government funding cuts, inflationary costs and a growing and ageing population.

"This is a balancing act - we simply can't afford to do everything in the same way as we used to, but we also don't want to scrap the services that you most value.  The aim of the budget proposals is to save money, whilst protecting the services that matter most to businesses and residents.”

You can respond to the budget consultation online here

Also speaking will be Detective Constable Pam Bahia from the SC07 Organised Crime Command, Sterling Fraud Prevention, at New Scotland Yard. DC Bahia will be talking about Business Fraud and how to safeguard your business against fraudulent acts.

There will be an opportunity to ask questions, followed by networking with other businesses over nibbles, mulled wine and mince pies.
