Top tips for a winning entry

Follow these ten tips to help boost your chances of winning:

  1. Which category?  You need to apply for the one that you think you can win not the one that you would like to be known for winning.
  2. If something’s worth doing, it’s worth doing well.  DO put as much time and effort into preparing your application as you would expect the judges to spend when considering it. You’re unlikely to win any award based on 10 minutes’ work.
  3. If they need to know, put it in. Remember that the judges may not have any past experience of your company. DO include full details to assist the judges, especially if your market is specialist.
  4. Modesty is NOT the best policy. DO boast, boast, and boast! This is your only chance to sell yourself.
Answer the question. DO answer each question in full and don’t rely on information that you may have included in a previous answer. If you are asked to show, demonstrate, give examples – make sure you do.
  5. Pictures.  The old adage of “a picture speaks a thousand words” couldn’t be truer and more importantly they are not part of your 200 words count, so DO use pictures to enforce your message.
  6. Sometimes you can’t see the wood for the trees. DO get someone to read your application and check for spelling mistakes and grammatical errors. It’s very difficult to spot your own mistakes, especially in something you’ve been working on for a while – and your computer’s spell check can miss the occasional spilling mistake.
  7. It’s not always good to recycle. DO think about what this award recognises. Each question is there for a reason, and the same question on two different application forms will probably need two different answers. Don’t simply cut and paste text from your marketing literature to answer a question. Also, don’t reuse an answer written as part of a previous application, especially if it was for a different award.
  8. Applying for more than one category? DO make sure that you submit each category independently as different judge’s work on each one.  Do not refer to another entry as they will not have access to it.
  9. The Criteria, Terms and Conditions: DO ensure you adhere to all the criteria, terms and conditions and submit a completed entry form with each category, as this is a simple hurdle to fall at.
  10. Deadline. DO make sure your entry is submitted before 5pm on Monday 6 July.
