Categories in the spotlight

2015 is your time to shine at the Havering Business Awards. Here’s a brief summary of the categories you can enter, with more information on the website.

The categories for 2015 are:

  1. Golden Anniversary Award for Achievement (new this year). The London Borough of Havering was formed in 1965, and to celebrate its 50th anniversary, this prestigious award (for one year only), is open to all businesses in the borough who have stood the test of time (10 years or more), evolving products and services and embracing new technologies, which continue to strive in their field today.
  2. Havering Business of the Year is one of the biggest awards of the evening, recognising the business, large or small, in Havering, which has performed the best during the year. We’re looking for a business that stands out. It could be down to financial performance, social responsibility, customer service and loyalty – or another reason that makes it the best.
  3. Growing Business of the Year Award is for companies which have been trading for a minimum of three years and which can show a high growth in turnover and profit, and/or growth in employees and products or services, over the last 12 months.
  4. The Innovation Award acknowledges the use of technology and innovation within an organisation, or the creation of an innovative product or service.
  5. The New Business of the Year Award acknowledges a new company that has achieved significant success within its first two years of trading.
  6. The Apprentice of the Year Award is open to an apprentice who has shown outstanding progress and commitment to their own personal development, and their progression on a recognised learning scheme
  7. The Customer Care Award recognises the best retail or customer service business in Havering; open to retail outlets or service providers.
  8. The Best Small Business Award is designed for sole traders or businesses with five employees or less, which are making an impact within their field.
  9. The Environmental Business of the Year Award recognises the most outstanding business for playing its part in reducing its carbon footprint.   Entries are sought from businesses who manufacture an environmentally friendly product, or where environmental sustainability has been a key consideration, including reducing energy use or promoting transport incentive initiatives, a waste and recycling programme, or green purchasing.
  10. The Business Person of the Year Award recognises a managing director, owner or manager who has achieved significant success in his/her business during the past 12 months
  11. The Best Family Business of the Year Award is for the business that best demonstrates how running a family owned and managed business has added significantly to its competitive advantage. The company will need to show how being a family-owned and managed business, has had a positive impact on its achievements.
  12. The Staff Training and Development Award is for organisation’s that have a clear and focused business strategy, incorporating a positive commitment to on-going staff training and development. The category will look at; good practice within the companies to train and promote from within, coaching of people from all age groups and backgrounds to achieve goals and the use of apprentices.
