Cutting back

Hedge poster

This month we are launching a campaign to remind hedge owners to keep them cut back from pavements and footways. This is important because when hedges are overgrown they can force wheelchairs and buggies into the road. This is the responsibility of the owner. If you want to report an overgrown hedge please use our reporting system and we will investigate.

Dressing for spring

resurfacing

Surface Dressing is the application of a sprayed Bitumen layer to which chips are applied. This seals the road against water damage and provides improved skid resistance. A surface treatment will halt the decay and extend its working life by 10 years.

You can now view this year’s programme. The PDF document will be updated daily.

Stay safe

safety lorry

In May, a lorry-based machine will be in East Sussex measuring the resistance to skidding on wet roads. Results of the survey are used to identify those locations requiring further investigation by our engineers to identify where maintenance is required. This could be anything from the introduction of warning signage to a full resurfacing scheme.

Bridging the gap

Newhaven swing bridge

East Sussex County Council is spending £1.2m on the refurbishment of the Newhaven swing bridge to maintain its reliability when opening and closing so that boats can pass along the river Ouse.

It is estimated that Amalgamated Construction Ltd will be finished by the end of September 2015. Unfortunately this does mean some night closures and there will be another 2 short night closures over the next few weeks which may cause delays when travelling through Newhaven.
