Devon Virtual School for Children in Care

Devon Virtual School for Children in Care supports the educational needs of Children in Care.  The Virtual School has produced two new guidance booklets for Foster Parents, Carers and Social Workers, entitled School Admissions, and Supporting Children in Care to Achieve Well at School.

Emotional, Psychological and Social Wellbeing Support Service for Young People in Devon

Public Health Devon has been working in partnership with schools to develop a new service to promote and support the emotional, psychological and social wellbeing of children and young people in Devon. In order to ensure the new service really makes a difference to children and young people and their families and schools, Public Health Devon is asking all schools to provide information on the local perspective.  Please complete the attached form and return to Emily Youngman by 30 November 2014.  Your input will help to develop the final specification for the new service which is due to be launched in September 2015.  Read more in the Public Health Devon Briefing and find out more about research from NAHT and Public Health England into the link between well-being and attainment in school.

IMPORTANT: Compliance regarding information on School Websites

Nick Gibb MP, Minister of State for School Reform, has recently written to all Local Authorities raising concerns about the number of maintained schools that may not be complying fully with the requirements of the school information regulations.  Maintained schools are required to publish detailed information on their websites concerning, amongst other things, the school curriculum, use of the pupil premium, performance data, and certain school policies including the behaviour policy  Read More>>

Note: whilst this letter is addressed to the LA in respect of maintained schools, if you are an academy or free school you need to check your funding agreement to find out what you should publish on your website.

Guidance on what maintained schools must publish online is outlined on the DfE Website.

Pay Statements for Supply Teachers – Changes to Arrangements

Schools should ensure that from September 2014 all supply teachers employed directly in that school are subject to a performance appraisal and subsequently a salary statement detailing their pay. DCC Education Finance Blog

Schools Forum has now agreed to provide a one-off targeted allocation to all mainstream, academy and free schools for school wide Additional Educational Need. £1.5m has been distributed at the end of October to schools on a per pupil basis.

It is important to note that this is one-off funding and does not form part of the individual school budget share. Visit the blog to post your comment.
