Dear Colleagues

Welcome to the first edition of the new style DAPH Update newsletter, aiming to make for easier reading and ensuring that key information is delivered straight to your inbox. This complements the rebranding of the DAPH website and logo, which we are excited to launch in time for this year's Annual School Leadership Conference.

We would encourage you to bookmark the new website address http://www.daph.org.uk and would welcome your thoughts and feedback on the new site. Note that some pages are still under development as work in progress.

The start of the academic year has again been busy with the recent round of School Funding Consultation events, co-hosted by DCC, DAPH, DASH and DAG. Additionally, final preparations for the annual conference and other Autumn term events are underway, further details of which are below.

Annual School Leadership Conference

'NEW FOUND FREEDOMS'

Thursday 16 and Friday 17 October 2014

Saunton Sands Hotel

New Found Freedoms

The last 18 months have seen an incredible amount of change to the schools system. From curriculum to assessment, meals to SEN there have been a raft of new initiatives, all with a distinct theme - it is down to schools to create and deliver the system. Schools have a number of new found freedoms. This conference aims to explore these in more depth, allowing delegates the opportunity to explore their thinking, develop their own schools or just reflect on current good practice.

Our exciting mix of speakers this year will allow us to consider the demands of the new curriculum, potential of the Pupil Premium, understanding Ofsted as well developing ourselves as leaders.
Keynote Speakers include Jim Lawless on Day 1, and Professor Mick Waters and Sir John Dunford on Day 2.

Visit the DAPH website for options and information on how to book.

Ofsted

Revised Guidance for Inspections of Maintained Schools and Academies

Ofsted has significantly reduced, by over 275 pages, the amount of guidance it publishes for inspectors, schools and other stakeholders. Many elements of previous guidance are now included in a new training programme for inspectors. There are now just three guidance documents:

The framework for school inspection

the School inspection handbook

Inspecting safeguarding in maintained schools and academies

Inspectors will use this new guidance for the inspection of maintained schools and academies from September 2014. Key changes>>

Secondary Transfer - September 2015

The School Admissions Team have advised that due to the removal of the Schools Courier service, it would not be timely or cost effective to send the year 6 UID letters via Primary schools. We have negotiated a bulk post rate and will dispatch letters  direct to parents.   The co-operation of Primary Schools is very much appreciated in this area, particularly to advise  the Admissions Team of year 6 new arrivals and, later in the process, to chase missing applications.  Schools will be sent an email at the start of term which includes a link to the pdf of the Next Step and advice on the process and timescales.
