Pensions Line October 2013

Peninsula Pensions

A quarterly e-zine for Devon and Somerset LGPS employers

The Investment and Pension Fund Committee met on 13 September  2013. Please find the minutes of the meeting here

Auto Enrolment Consultation You maybe aware that the DWP has just published government responses to its technical changes to auto enrolment together with amendment regulations.
As anticipated, there are no major changes and the requirement for DB schemes who contractually enrol employees i.e. LGPS to be exempt from AE rules has not happened, although the DWP is continuing to assess this possibility. You will recall that we did mention this at the last PLOG and our hope was for changes to exempt the LGPS from AE

New Local Government Pension Scheme 2014
The regulations for the new LGPS 2014 have just been published and we are busy reading up on the new scheme.  We are currently waiting for the final Transitional Regulations that deal with the benefits from the old LGPS, which are expected in the next couple of weeks

Please visit this website for technical and legal information - including HR & Payroll guides - about the LGPS 2014 for employers and administrators. Let us know what you think

Following the success of the Employer Workshops regarding LGPS 2014 the LGA is holding Employer seminars  in November. More details can be found by reading  Circular 273

Admin round-up

Peninsula Pensions has officially arrived, and the Devon Pensions team has moved into its new office at Great Moor House. The Somerset team will join us in due course

Devon team changes
Please use our new contact details to make sure that you speak to the right person. This follows a change in role for Tony Sullivan to cover Sarah Stevenson who is on maternity leave. Nicky Cobb replaces Tony on the benefit teams. David Morris and Rob Kean have also been promoted within the benefit teams

Annual Benefit Statements
A big thank you to employers for helping us deliver the statements to scheme members

Automatic Enrolment

Opt-out forms
The LGPS was amended in October 2012 no longer to allow new employees the option to opt out of the pension scheme before they started. New employees must now obtain an opt-out form after they have started employment, from either our website or by contacting our offices. The employer must not give out opt-out forms

Are you ready for your staging date?
There are still many employers whose staging date for automatic enrolment has not yet arrived. If your staging date is within the next six months are you fully prepared to comply with the required duties of automatic enrolment? If you need any guidance don’t forget you can contact Viv Ray at Peninsula Pensions on (01392) 383000 or visit our website
