New whistleblowing advice line for professionals

Advice line for anyone concerned about how workplace child protection issues are being handled

Phone

On 13 February 2016 the whistleblowing helpline was officially launched to provide free advice and support to professionals wanting to raise concerns about how child protection issues are being handled in their own or other organisations.

The advice line was commissioned by the Home Office as a firm commitment made by Government in its response to failures to protect children from sexual exploitation in Rotherham and the Government's subsequent Tackling Child Sexual Exploitation report.

It is not intended to replace any current practices or responsibilities of organisations working with children. The helpline advisors would encourage professionals to raise any concerns about a child to their own employer in the first instance. However, the advice line offers an alternative route if whistleblowing internally is difficult or professionals have concerns around how matters are being handled  READ MORE

Safeguarding and Early Help

REMINDER: School Holiday Emergency Contact Details

In order for the multi-agency safeguarding processes in the MASH to be as effective as possible in protecting children, schools are being asked to provide contact details of a nominated person or persons who can be contacted by the MASH during school holidays. The nominated person will only be contacted when it is felt essential to have information from the school about the child as part of the multi-agency child protection decision making process. Please provide these details to the Education MASH Researcher Louisa.rockey@babcockinternational.com

The s175 audit in September 2016 will include a question asking schools to confirm that they have provided a school holiday contact number to the MASH.

REMINDER: Deadline for submitting Safeguarding Audit 2015 is now overdue
