Reminders

Preparing for Adulthood Strategy Consultation

Please share with staff, parents and young people

Preparing for Adulthood means getting ready to move from childhood into adult life, it starts when a young person is 14 and may continue until they are 25. Devon County Council and its partners have a responsibility in regard to young people preparing for adulthood, who are likely to continue to have needs into their adult lives.

The Children and Families Act 2014 and the Care Act 2014 require new ways of working to ensure young people achieve successful long term outcomes, such as getting a job or going into higher education. The ‘Preparing for Adulthood’ strategy sets out agencies’ intent to meet their obligations and the priorities for the next 12 months.

Devon County Council wish to consult with a wide range of individuals to ensure they get it right. Please read the Draft Preparing for Adulthood Strategy and give us your views by completing the online survey or the consultation questionnaire, which can be returned via email or post.

Email: preparingforadulthoodproject-mailbox@devon.gov.uk Post: Preparing for Adulthood Strategy Consultation, First Floor Annexe, County Hall, Topsham Road, Exeter EX2 4QD

The survey closes on Friday 18th December 2015

Schools Health Education Unit Survey - Invite for Schools

In 2015, Public Health commissioned a countywide school based survey of children and young people’s health related behaviour. Originating with Exeter University, the survey questionnaire was developed by the Schools Health Education Unit (SHEU) who has over 30 years' experience in this field of work.

In the spring and summer terms of 2015, a total of 1589 pupils took part in 26 primary and 4 secondary school settings in Devon. The survey results aided Public Health in better understanding children’s context and perspective and provided robust evidence to more effectively target work with pupils. The data has also been incredibly helpful to schools. The evidence collected was summarised in an individual report for each school, and the combined evidence from all schools is being used to inform the Early Help for Mental Health (EH4MH) service to support schools.
Public Health is re-running the survey in the spring 2016 term. Many schools have signed up to complete the survey again and this is your school’s chance to take advantage of this exciting opportunity! READ MORE about the survey.

DfE Open consultation: Local area SEND consultation

This is a consultation on Ofsted and the Care Quality Commission’s proposals for inspecting how effectively local areas fulfil their responsibilities towards children and young people who are disabled and/or have special educational needs under section 20 of the Children Act 2004. The consultation document sets out the principles under which the 2 inspectorates propose to undertake these joint inspections.

The DfE is seeking the widest possible range of views from those who have an interest in, or expertise relating to disability and special educational needs. We particularly want to hear from disabled young people and those who have special educational needs and their parents and carers.

DAPH strongly encourages all schools to respond to the consultation.
