DCC School Crossing Patrols - Update

DAPH has been advised that a member of the Road Casualty Reduction team will get in touch with those schools currently on their books as having a patrol, a vacant site or a recently disestablished site.

Those schools will be consulted on their preferences for the future of the service, including the principal questions asked in the DAPH survey (i.e. regarding a user-pays model, delivered by a third party).

DCC remain committed to continuing their discussions with Devon Norse as a potential third party concurrent with the new survey and in advance of the final Cabinet report (this is because the arrangements, if that route is followed, are complex and time consuming so it makes sense to continue with the groundwork albeit in advance of a Cabinet decision).

The Cabinet report will be scheduled for January and formal actions towards an approved goal will commence after that.  For further details, please comtact

Department for Education

DfE Open consultation: Local area SEND consultation

This is a consultation on Ofsted and the Care Quality Commission’s proposals for inspecting how effectively local areas fulfil their responsibilities towards children and young people who are disabled and/or have special educational needs under section 20 of the Children Act 2004. The consultation document sets out the principles under which the 2 inspectorates propose to undertake these joint inspections.

The DfE is seeking the widest possible range of views from those who have an interest in, or expertise relating to disability and special educational needs. We particularly want to hear from disabled young people and those who have special educational needs and their parents and carers.

111 MPs petition Prime Minister demanding fairer school funding

One hundred and eleven Members of Parliament have signed a letter to the Prime Minister demanding that he sticks to his pledge to introduce a new national funding formula in the near future.

The letter, which was masterminded by f40 Vice Chair, Graham Stuart MP, was handed over in the House of Commons. It calls on the government to implement a fairer funding formula along the lines of proposals prepared by f40 which, from 2017-18, would see funding geared towards improving educational standards rather than perpetuating an inequitable system.   Read More>>
