- The total number of jobs at workplaces in Coventry has
been increasing over recent years. However, indications are that
employment amongst Coventry residents has not generally increased in
recent years - net commuting into the city is up.
- The Gross Value Added (GVA) generated by economic
activity in Coventry in 2012 was £6.13 billion, equating to £18,978 per
head – 13% lower than the national average. Between 2011 and 2012 Coventry
GVA per head increased by 5%.
- The average earnings in 2013 of all who work in
Coventry, £24,750, are significantly up from 2012.
- The rate of business formation and closure in Coventry
in 2012 changed little from 2011 levels. The business formation rate in
Coventry remains lower than the national average, about the same as the
average for other metropolitan areas.
- The Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA) claimant count amongst
Coventry residents continues to fall as a seasonally adjusted trend. The
total number of out-of-work benefit claimants also continues to fall.
- City centre footfall during 2013 was 2% down on 2012
levels. In quarter 4 2013 there were 60 empty shop units in Coventry’s
prime retail area – the highest quarter 4 number since we started
recording in 2005.
